Institute of Technology and Business in České Budějovice

The School of Expertness and Valuation (hereinafter referred to as the “School”), being part of The Institute of Technology and Business in České Budějovice (hereinafter “VŠTE”), focuses its research activities on the economic sphere, specifically on solving economic issues in the areas of complex evaluation of enterprises, financial analysis of enterprises, forecasting the future development of a company and its value, the development of key business indicators, stock markets, relations between economic parameters and a particular industry area, etc. Apart from providing standardized solutions, the aforementioned areas are examined by using the artificial intelligence – artificial neural networks.

Regarding the above research activities and their focus, a wide range of expert publications has already been published by the School´s members of academic staff. The most important publications which the academic staff participated in include expert books titled: “Neural Networks Modeling for Costs”, Using Neural Networks in the Complex Assessment of Enterprises”, and a university textbook titled “Overview of Comprehensive Enterprise Assessment Methods”. The publications completely correspond with the School´s research interest. Its staff members also regularly publish in the world-renowned Web of Science and Scopus databases mainly contributing with papers in scientific journals as well as papers from proceedings of recognized Czech and international conferences.

Furthermore, the School as such is involved in various forms of international co-operation. They include organizing of international scientific conferences and establishing co-operation in terms of additional scientific and research activities (publishing monographs, articles, etc.).

The main initiative of the School consists in holding an annual scientific conference known as “Innovative Economic Symposium”, which VŠTE has been organizing for five years together the North China University of Technology (NCUT) in Beijing. The conference is attended by other colleagues from the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Russia, China, etc. and is regularly held under the auspices of the President of the Czech Republic.

The first conference, “Innovative Economic Symposium 2015: Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises as a Stabilizing Factor in the Market Economy“, was organized in České Budějovice. As its title suggests, it was focused on small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and their position in the market economy. The conference was held in Beijing the following year (2016) and was related to trade and economic relations between China and Central Europe. In 2017, the conference was organized again by VŠTE, with strategic partnership in international trade being the main topic addressed there.

The fourth conference, “Milestones and Trends of the World Economy”, took place in Beijing in the autumn of 2018 and was aimed at a number of current issues in the areas of international business, economics, finance and business economics. Until then, VŠTE had only co-operated with the NCUT in holding the conferences. However, in 2019, VŠTE started its co-operation with the Kookmin University in South Korea becoming a member of the conference organizing committee. The fifth annual conference (Innovative Economic Symposium 2019) was held on 7th November, 2019 in České Budějovice and concerned potential of the Eurasian Economic Union.

In 2020, the conference was supposed to take place in Russia, but due to coronavirus pandemic all participant connected on-line. In any way, the reason was to establish closer co-operation between VŠTE and the Henan University in China and between VŠTE and the Samara State University of Economics in Russia. Co-operating with the Russian university has resulted in publishing scientific contributions that bring interesting and innovative views of both parties on the current economic issues. More specifically, a collective work titled “Sustainable Development” was released to draw attention to particular sustainable development issues that came to the forefront of economic theory at the time when opportunities for further large-scale development narrowed due to the depletion of scarce resources and the negative impact of human economic activity on the environment. Other published collective works include “Inventory Management in Manufacturing Company” and “Creating a Comprehensive Enterprise Evaluation Method”. The former deals with inventory management issues, and points out that using modern innovative technology (the artificial neural networks) contributes to inventory management optimization in a manufacturing company. Moreover, the co-operation between VŠTE and the Henan University is worth mentioning as well, since it comprises the following publications:

  • “Pollution caused by finance and the relative policy analysis in China”,
  • “The Reduction Cost of Nonperforming Loan: Evidence from the China´s Commercial Bank”,
  • “The application of artificial neural networks on the prediction of the future financial development of transport companies” or
  • “Determining discount rate and investment evaluation in small and medium-sized enterprises within Czech and Slovak conditions in the context of possible macroeconomic risks"
